Project Scope –

The project involved the conversion and upgrade of an existing ground floor extension, including thermal improvements, a new roof structure and internal reconfiguration to better support the kitchen and dining spaces.

Overview –

The existing extension had become thermally inefficient and visually disconnected from the rest of the house. Our approach was to transform it into a purposeful, comfortable space that felt intentional rather than secondary.

Externally, the extension was upgraded using external wall insulation and finished in brick slip, improving performance while referencing the home’s original material palette. The brick finish was deliberately chosen so the extension would read as a distinct addition rather than blending into the main house.

A new roof replaced the existing structure, with a reduced pitch raising the eaves height. This allowed for larger rear doors, increased natural light and improved insulation, while also enabling the internal ceiling height to be lifted to align with the rest of the house.

Internally, the kitchen was reconfigured to improve flow and usability. The converted extension now forms a walk-in pantry and a warm dining nook with built-in seating, creating a cosy, practical space that connects seamlessly back to the main kitchen.
